Michigan State Police (MSP) motor carrier officers conducted 959 commercial motor vehicle safety inspections during the 21st Annual International Roadcheck; a joint effort of federal, state and local truck and bus inspectors from the United States and Canada to address safety and security on North American highways.
From June 3-5, MSP motor carrier officers focused on driver qualifications and compliance, safety violations, hazardous materials compliance and homeland security issues. Commercial motor vehicle safety inspections were conducted at weigh stations on major routes throughout Michigan.
As a result of the inspections, 45 drivers and 210 vehicles were placed out of service. Results of the national effort are not yet available.
"Commercial vehicle inspections play a key role in saving lives on Michigan's highways and nationally," said Captain Robert R. Powers, Jr., MSP Traffic Safety Division commander.
The Annual International Roadcheck was sponsored by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).
