The Michigan State Police Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division (EMHSD) is pleased to announce that eight Michigan nonprofit organizations have been awarded federal funds to become better prepared against international terrorist attacks. The funding is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security under the fiscal year 2007 Urban Areas Security Initiative (UASI) Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP).
The eight Michigan recipients include the Beth Israel Congregation, Children's Hospital of Michigan, Detroit Receiving Hospital, Harper-Hutzel Hospital, Jewish Community Center of Washtenaw County, Jewish Family Services, Jewish Family Services of Washtenaw County and Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit.
The grant program is designed to integrate nonprofit preparedness activities with broader state and local efforts, as well as promote coordination and collaboration among public and private community representatives, state and local government agencies, and Citizen Corps Councils.
The Michigan grantees are among 308 nonprofit organizations selected nationwide for funding under the UASI NSGP.
