Col. Peter C. Munoz, director of the Michigan State Police (MSP), is pleased to announce that MSP enforcement members will no longer be subject to mileage restrictions thanks to $1 million from administrative efficiencies identified within the Department of Management and Budget (DMB), Vehicle and Travel Services that Gov. Jennifer M. Granholm has directed to the MSP.
In March, the MSP implemented mileage restrictions as part of its $13.6 million cost savings plan. As of July 25, total patrol miles have been reduced by 39 percent or nearly one million miles when compared to the same timeframe last year.
"Our troopers have done a tremendous job carrying out their duties under these circumstances," Munoz stated. "We are pleased to be able to lift these restrictions sooner than anticipated, thus allowing them to enhance their role as Michigan's public safety net."
Per Executive Directive 2007-19, administrative travel remains restricted for all state employees.
