At a special ceremony today, the Michigan State
Police (MSP) recognized 20 students from the Saginaw Career Complex for their
efforts to restore and maintain an MSP 1975 Plymouth Fury and MSP 1992 Ford
Mustang.
"The Michigan State Police appreciates the
generosity of the school and the work of the students and faculty to restore
these important pieces of State Police history," said Captain Daniel Atkinson,
commander of the MSP Special Operations Division.
In April 2006, the Mustang Club of Mid-Michigan
enlisted the help of students and faculty at the Saginaw Career Complex for the
restoration of the 1992 Ford Mustang. Club members worked to restore the car's
exterior while the students focused on the internal mechanics.
After the Mustang was completed in September
2006, the Saginaw Career Complex volunteered to restore both the interior
mechanics and exterior of a MSP 1975 Plymouth Fury.
The restored 1975 Plymouth Fury and 1992 Ford
Mustang will be used for parades and other public events as part of the
department's historic fleet, which also includes a 1937 Ford, 1991 Camaro and
1995 Caprice.
