LANSING. Drivers can expect to see more Michigan State Police (MSP) motor carrier patrol vehicles as the MSP Traffic Safety Division (formerly the Motor Carrier Division) ratchets up commercial vehicle traffic enforcement through the Special Transportation Enforcement Team (STET) operations this spring and summer.
With more patrol vehicles on the road, drivers are asked to use caution when approaching weigh stations and other enforcement operations as trucks may be slowing and changing lanes. In addition, the presence of one MSP patrol vehicle may indicate other patrol vehicles are also operating in the area, which may affect traffic conditions.
Drivers are also encouraged to "Share the Road" with commercial vehicles and practice smart driving by staying out of No Zones, such as the front and sides of a truck. Drivers can learn more important safety tips on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Association's Web site at www.sharetheroadsafely.org.
MSP STET operations focus on increasing safety belt use, reducing the number of speeding trucks, and ensuring proper driver qualifications through a variety of enforcement methods including enforcement at weigh stations, rest areas and during mobile patrols.
