East Lansing - Members of the Michigan State Police (MSP) Computer Crimes Unit (CCU) are participating in the national Get Net Safe Tour while it stops in the Detroit area Sept. 26, 27 and 28.
MSP members will join representatives from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) at four elementary school presentations including one specifically for parents. Officers will also participate in an expert panel during a Detroit Regional Chamber of Commerce Luncheon.
In addition to helping children learn computer safety and prevent victimization, the presentations will teach parents to recognize situations where children are at risk. Parents will also learn how to communicate with their children to help the family become more safe and responsible when using a computer.
Although most of the events are not open to the public, the Get Net Safe Tour also includes two community seminars and a parents’ night which the public is encouraged to attend. The time and location of these events are listed on the MSP Calendar of Events at www.michigan.gov/msp.
The Get Net Safe tour is a partnership between government, non-government and industry leaders designed to raise people’s awareness of computer security and Internet safety to help people better protect themselves, their computers and their families. For more information, visit www.staysafe.org.
