East Lansing - Michigan State Police (MSP) Director Col. Peter C. Munoz will be on-hand Saturday at the Laurel Park Place in Livonia for the Passport to Safety event organized by the Livonia Police and Fire Departments. The event is designed to educate children in eight areas of safety, including 9-1-1 training, automobile safety, bicycle safety, choking and poisoning, computer safety, fire safety, stranger danger and water safety.
In addition to remarks by Colonel Munoz, the MSP Computer Crimes Unit will use interactive computers to teach children and their parents the do’s and don’ts of safe Internet use. The MSP Buckle-Up Bear will also be present to raise awareness about the importance of wearing safety belts.
"Passport to Safety is a great opportunity for law enforcement and businesses to work together to raise awareness and promote safety," stated Colonel Munoz. " We are pleased to be part of this event that is dedicated to ensuring the safety of our kids; and we encourage parents to come out and see what it is all about."
Passport to Safety is the largest indoor kids safety initiative of its kind. Civic and corporate sponsors have partnered with Laurel Park Place to make this event possible.
