LANSING. The Michigan State Police (MSP) is pleased to announce the promotion of Tony Katarsky to assistant commander of the MSP Emergency Management Division (EMD). Prior to his promotion, Katarsky served as manager of the Planning Section in EMD.
In his new position, Katarsky is responsible for the daily administration of emergency management and homeland security programs in the state. He also helps oversee the division’s 80 employees in Lansing and at seven field offices across the state.
“I am excited about beginning this new chapter of my service in EMD,” Katarsky said. “We have many talented and dedicated people here who are definitely up to the challenges of emergency management and homeland security. I look forward to working with them to help keep Michigan safe.”
Prior to joining the department in 1997, Katarsky worked for Detroit Edison beginning in 1981. In 1983, he joined Consumers Power where he served as director of emergency preparedness for five years. Katarsky also served as an instructor at Lansing Community College, Schoolcraft College and Wayne State University.
Katarsky earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in geography from Wayne State University. He currently resides in Jackson with his wife, Nancy. They have three children.
