USDOT Recognizes Agency for Drug Seizures on Large Trucks
EAST LANSING. Officers from the Michigan State Police Motor Carrier Division were recently
recognized for their drug interdiction efforts on commercial motor vehicles by the U.S.
Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (USDOT/FMCSA).
At the 15th Annual Commercial Motor Vehicle Criminal Interdiction, Intelligence Networking, and
Training Conference, the USDOT/FMCSA presented a plaque to Sgt. Brad Banks, commander of
the Investigations Unit, who was representing the Motor Carrier Division at the conference, for the
Division’s drug interdiction efforts. Sgt. Banks also received an award personally for his drug
interdiction and intelligence efforts.
"We are very pleased that our efforts at interdiction are having an impact on criminal activity
taking place on our state highways," said Capt. Robert R. Powers, Jr., commanding officer of the
Motor Carrier Division. "Money from illegal drug trafficking is used to fund terrorist activities, and
interdiction is an important component of our homeland security initiatives."
Officers of the Michigan State Police Motor Carrier Division have confiscated over 2,000 lbs. of
marijuana, 30 kilograms of cocaine, and a half million dollars in currency, resulting in more than a
dozen arrests and the forfeiture of a truck tractor and semi trailer.
