Contact:  Ms. Mary Jo Hovey, Field Services Bureau, (517) 336-6163

Michigan State Police (MSP) Director Colonel Peter C. Munoz has announced the retirement of Lieutenant Colonel Anthony Gomez-Mesquita effective April 30. Gomez-Mesquita has served as one of the department's three deputy directors and as commander of the Field Services Bureau since June 2007.

As commander of the Field Services Bureau, Gomez-Mesquita has provided executive direction and leadership to nearly 2,000 enlisted and civilian employees assigned to the department's 54 posts and 12 satellites, as well as the Southeast Criminal Investigation, Special Operations and Traffic Safety divisions.

"Throughout his career, Lt. Colonel Gomez-Mesquita has served the Michigan State Police and the citizens of Michigan with distinction," stated Munoz.  "From trooper to deputy director, he displayed strong leadership that made a positive and lasting impact on all those around him.  I wish him the best as he begins the next chapter of his life."

Gomez-Mesquita enlisted with the department in 1982, and graduated as a member of the 97th Trooper Recruit School. In his 26-year career, Gomez-Mesquita has served at the Brighton, Detroit, Gaylord, Flint and Mt. Pleasant posts, as well as the Criminal Investigation Division and the First District before being promoted to Major and Commander of the East Region for the Field Services Bureau in 2004.

During his 26 years with the department, Gomez-Mesquita has held the ranks of trooper, detective trooper, sergeant, detective lieutenant, first lieutenant, inspector, captain, major and lieutenant colonel.

A native of Detroit, Gomez-Mesquita resides in Mt. Pleasant with his wife and two children.
