15GOVERNOR ANNOUNCES $8 MILLION IN FUNDING FROM MSHDA'S COMMUNITY ASSISTANCE TEAM AVAILABLE TO MICHIGAN DOWNTOWNS FOR IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS IN 2007
LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced that approximately $8 million in federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding is available to Michigan downtowns throughout the state. Communities are encouraged to submit letters of intent to compete for the first round of funding. Notice of intent must be received in the Michigan State Housing Development Authority's (MSHDA) Community Assistance Team (CATeam) office by 5:00 p.m. on March 30, 2007.
13Redevelopments in Grand Rapids and Redford Township to Bring Nearly 4,000 New Jobs
Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced plans for two major redevelopment projects attracting $148 million in new investment and creation of nearly 4,000 industrial, office, retail and medical professional jobs. The former Steelcase industrial operation in Grand Rapids will be converted to a mixed-use commercial, residential and light industrial complex. In Redford Township, several vacant and blighted commercial properties on Beech Daly will be turned into a $3.1 million medical care facility. The brownfield redevelopment projects will benefit from assistance provided by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation and the Michigan State Housing Development Authority.
08MICHIGAN GOVERNOR JENNIFER GRANHOLM RECEIVES NATIONAL AWARD FOR CAMPAIGN TO END HOMELESSNESS IN MICHIGAN
Washington D.C. - Today at the second annual National Summit on Homelessness, the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness recognized Governor Jennifer M. Granholm with the "Every American Deserves A Home" award for her encouragement and leadership for Michigan's statewide Campaign to End Homelessness including the support of dozens of complex strategies designed to eliminate barriers, streamline services and innovate solutions that will end homelessness as a costly social problem.
