The Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) helps nonprofit organizations and local units of government implement local initiatives to improve Michigan's affordable housing stock, promote self-sufficiency among persons at risk of homelessness, and to enhance the quality of life in communities throughout the state
MSHDA provides assistance through three funding mechanisms, complemented by the Technical Assistance program.  These funding mechanisms are:

*        Housing Resource Fund (HRF)

*        County Allocation Program

*         Emergency Shelter Grants (ESG)

Nonprofit organizations and local units of government use these funding sources for a variety of affordable housing programs.  Eligible projects must fall into one or more of the following program types:

*        Homebuyer assistance

*        Homeowner assistance

*        Rental rehabilitation

*        Rental development

*        Homeless assistance

*         Neighborhood preservation
