December 21, 2010
The Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) today directed Detroit Edison to refund $26,872,231, including interest, to its electric customers.
The refund comes because the utility's self-implemented rate increase was more than the final amount approved by the MPSC.
As a result, a residential electric customer using 500 kilowatt-hours a month will see a refund of approximately $6.08 for the month of January 2011.
After the refund is complete, Detroit Edison will disclose the amount of any residual amounts over- or under-refunded, and will reflect any such residual amount in its next power supply cost recovery (PSCR) reconciliation proceeding, as a separate line item, as either a credit or a charge.
