September 23, 2008
The Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) today designated the Volunteer Center of Battle Creek (VCBC) as the
2-1-1
community resource information and referral answering point for seven rate centers, and it reassigned one other rate center from
Gryphon Place
to VCBC.
The abbreviated dialing number
2-1-1
has been designated by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to enable callers to reach community resource and referral answering points.
The Volunteer Center of Battle Creek filed an application requesting designation as the
2-1-1
answering point for the rate centers of Burr Oak,
Centerville,
Colon,
Constantine, Mendon, Sturgis,
Three
Rivers
and White Pigeon.
VCBC will provide operation of the
2-1-1
telephone number 24 hours per day, seven days per week. The Commission concluded that its approval is provisional, in part, due to the FCC's ability to recall the
2-1-1
number.
The MPSC is an agency within the Department of Labor & Economic Growth.
