Contact:  Mary Jo Kunkle (517) 241-3323

December 6, 2002

The Michigan Public Service Commission today granted MCN Oil & Gas Company authority to construct and operate two natural gas pipelines in Michigan.  MCN was granted authority to construct and operate the Echo 10 Pipeline in Antrim County.  MCN will use the pipeline, a 4-1/2 inch outer diameter line approximately 2,640 feet long to transport natural gas from the MCN Echo 10 Central Processing Facility to market by way of the existing gas transmission system.  MCN was also authorized to construct and operate the Clearwater Central Pipeline in Kalkaska County.  The company will use the pipeline, a 4-1/2 inch outer diameter line approximately 5.65 miles long, to transport natural gas from the MCN Clearwater Central Processing Facility to market by way of the existing gas transmission system.   MCN requested approval to construct and operate the two pipelines on October 15, 2002.

The pipelines will meet the requirements of the Michigan Gas Safety Standards if constructed, tested and operated as proposed.  MCN must file with the Commission, within 60 days after construction of each of the pipelines, a completion report that includes pressure test data and a map of the pipeline, as constructed.  The Commission also directed the company to make the appropriate filings if, in the future, the pipelines are to be used to transport third-party natural gas.

MCN is headquartered in Detroit.

The MPSC is an agency within the Department of Consumer and Industry Services.
