MPSC Grants License to Royal Bank of Scotland plc as an Alternative Electric Supplier

Contact:  Judy Palnau (517) 241-3323

November 13, 2008

The Michigan Public Service Commission today issued an order granting a license to The Royal Bank of Scotland plc as an alternative electric supplier (AES).

The company submitted an application for a license as an AES on June 18.

The MPSC approved the license based on a determination that the company possesses sufficient technical competence to engage in energy transactions, is capable of meeting safety requirements for electric operations, and complies with other lawful obligations.

The company must comply with all applicable provisions of Public Act 141 of 2000 and the Commission's orders.  Failure to comply fully may result in revocation of the license or other penalties.

In addition, the Commission today issued an order in Case No. U-15902 to assist in the orderly implementation of Michigan's new energy laws for the state's AESs.  The Commission directed the company to file requests to consolidate its case with that of another provider in this docket by Nov. 19.  The MPSC encourages interested persons to submit public comments.  Written and electronic comments may be filed with the Commission at any time.  Written comments should be mailed to the Executive Secretary, Michigan Public Service Commission, P.O. Box 30221, Lansing, MI  48909.  Electronic comments may be e-mailed to mpscedockets@michigan.gov.  All comments should reference Case No. U-15902.  All information submitted to the Commission in this matter will become public information, available on the Commission's Web site, and subject to disclosure.

The MPSC is an agency within the Department of Labor & Economic Growth.
