MPSC Grants Alternative Gas Supplier License to Exelon Energy Company

Contact:  Judy Palnau (517) 241-3323

August 4, 2005

The Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) today granted Exelon Energy Company a license as an alternative gas supplier (AGS).

The MPSC determined that the application is in the public interest and that by granting this request for a license, opportunities for competition may expand.

In addition, the Commission conditioned the license on compliance with all applicable provisions of Public Act 634 of 2002 and the Commission’s orders and administrative rules.  Failure to comply with any of these provisions may result in revocation of the license or other penalties.  In addition, the granting of the license to Exelon Energy Company is conditioned on the provision of service to customers within a reasonable time.  Failure to do so may result in revocation of the license.

Exelon Energy Company applied for a license on Dec. 13, 2004, showing its compliance with the requirements for an alternative gas supplier under Public Act 634 and the Commission’s order (U-13694), which established a licensing procedure for AGSs.

Exelon Energy Company is headquartered in Westchester, Ill.

The MPSC is an agency within the Department of Labor & Economic Growth.

Case No. U-14555
