MPSC Approves New Alternative Energy Economic Development Service Tariff for Alpena Power Company

Contact:  Judy Palnau (517) 241-3323

January 29, 2008

The Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) today approved a new alternative energy economic development service tariff for Alpena Power Company.

The company filed an application with the Commission seeking approval of the tariff because of a prospective customer - ATI Casting Services, LLC - that plans to open a recently acquired facility to manufacture wind turbines.

"This is great news for Michigan's economy," said MPSC Chairman Orjiakor Isiogu.  "ATI Casting Services will be producing Michigan-made wind turbines, helping to develop Michigan's alternative energy manufacturing market."

Alpena Power Company developed the proposed tariff for new facilities or reopened closed facilities involved in alternative energy markets.

The MPSC is an agency within the Department of Labor & Economic Growth.

Case No. U-15487
