How to Apply for a Michigan Merit Award

Unlike applying for a scholarship or grant, there is no application process to follow. There is no application to complete, no papers to fill out.

After students take all four high school MEAP tests (writing, reading, mathematics and science), their scores are reported to us by the testing contractor. We store the data in our database, and later produce a list of qualifying students. Notification letters are mailed to students in their senior year (or in the fall after graduation from high school, if the student last tested in the spring of their senior year).

After the student is notified by our office that they earned a Michigan Merit Award, the student must certify their award by telling us where they want the award money sent. The easiest way to do this is through Online Certification.
