Otsego County Elder Friendly Leadership Team

The Michigan Commission on Services to the Aging approved recognition to the Otsego County Elder-Friendly Community Leadership Team for piloting the Michigan Community for a Lifetime Assessment and completing an Elder-Friendly Community Assessment for the City of Gaylord.

Some of the strengths the Community for a Lifetime review panel noted included the following:

  • A comprehensive community wide walkability plan exists, not only for the City of Gaylord, but also for surrounding townships and the county.
  • Sidewalks that have curb cuts at all intersections.
  • There is a senior millage that enhances resources for the community.
  • The county has a web site with a wide range of information and features, and a section on this project that helps increase awareness, interest, and support.
  • Detailed assessment of senior housing needs.
