October 7, 2005 - The State of Michigan is currently implementing several initiatives to ensure Michigan’s workforce is ready to fill current and future employment vacancies. The October edition of the "Job Show," the monthly cable TV show produced by the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth (DLEG) is featuring information on available jobs in health care and the future of advanced manufacturing and other high growth jobs in Michigan.
The 30-minute program, hosted by DLEG’s Nirva Civilus, features Brenda Njiwaji, director of DLEG’s Bureau of Workforce programs speaking about the Michigan Opportunity Partnership, an initiative which pledges to place 30,000 unemployed workers in available high demand career fields by the end of 2005. Also featured on the show is information about a new DLEG website designed to expose high school and college-aged students to careers in advanced manufacturing, and a sneak preview of a new cable show – The Job Show for Kids. The DLEG produced Job Show for Kids focuses on exposing middle and high school aged youth to traditional and non-traditional careers in areas with predicted job growth.
The Job Show will air throughout the month of October on 78 cable TV systems statewide. To find out when the 30-minute show will air on your local cable channel, visit the Job Show website at www.dleg.state.mi.us/jobshow.
