A Day in the Life of a MDEQ Geologist

Rock collecting
5:00 PM: Off-duty: One of the things some geologists like to do in their spare time is to collect rocks! Along with family and friends, they go collecting minerals and rocks where they get permission (mines, quarries, etc).

Kids get to go sometimes, and get to use rock hammers, magnifying glasses, hardhats and flashlights (in an underground mine). Rock collecting is a fun way to learn about the earth and geology!
