Reporting Public Health Emergencies

• MDCH - Epidemiology Services Division
The mission of the Epidemiology Services Division is to provide the scientific basis for the prevention of chronic diseases, injuries, and adverse maternal and child health outcomes. The Division also assists in the department's response to enquiries regarding local adverse health events (disease clusters), and collaborates on the development and enhancement of surveillance indicators and systems.

• MI-Toxics and Health Hotline
The Division maintains a toll-free telephone hotline for the general public. A toxicologist is on hand to answer questions about the environment and health. Callers can have questions answered about contaminants in the home and in the environment. Call 1-800-MI-TOXIC (1-800-648-6942) during business hours, 8:00am - 5:00pm, Monday through Friday.

• MDCH - Communicable Disease Division
The Communicable Disease Divsion's duties include: providing support and consultation to local health departments and other health care professionals, collecting and analyzing data on communicable diseases and immunization and sharing this with the health care community, developing programs and strategies to control communicable diseases and raise immunization rates in Michigan, engaging in special studies related to the control of communicable diseases and immunization, and serving as a liaison with CDC on issues related to communicable disease and immunization.

• MDCH - Office of Public Health Preparedness
The Office of Public Health Preparedness (OPHP) in the Michigan Department of Community Health is charged with protecting the health of Michigan citizens against chemical, biological and radiological threats. OPHP focuses on minimizing the threat to health from terrorist acts, accidents and other incidents. We collaborate with local, state and federal authorities to stay ahead of forces that threaten the health of Michigan citizens.
