Mentor Michigan is currently accepting applications for the 2012 Lloyd Carr MVP Mentoring Awards.
The Lloyd Carr MVP Mentoring Awards are given to five individual youth mentees in Michigan who best exemplify the benefits of a mentoring relationship. Exhibited benefits may include improved attitude, attendance, grades, pro-social behaviors, and family and peer relationships. Youth must be currently enrolled in high school and part of a formal mentoring match. Lloyd Carr is the former head football coach at the University of Michigan and one of Mentor Michigan's current spokesmen.
Nominators of this award may include mentoring programs, mentors, or the mentees themselves. Winners will receive a $1,000 scholarship to attend college after high school graduation. The awards will be given to the five recipients at an event held in January 2012 during the annual Michigan Mentoring Month.
Nominations must be submitted to Mentor Michigan and postmarked by Tuesday, November 15, 2011. To submit a completed nomination, please fill out the necessary information on the official nomination form linked here.
Please also submit the additional components listed below:
- A 300-word essay written by the mentee that explains why they got a mentor and demonstrates the impact their mentoring relationship has had on them personally.
- A 500-word essay written by the mentee's mentor (even if they're the nominator) that demonstrates the impact the mentoring relationship has had on the youth - especially documenting the significant changes seen in the youth's attitude, schoolwork, attendance, behavior, the overall mentoring relationship, etc.
- A digital photo of the mentee (please submit electronically to
robinsonk13@michigan.gov).
