Julie Chapin, Chair
MSU Extenstion - 4-H Youth Development Dr. Julie Chapin is a program leader with Michigan State University Extension. She currently serves as chair of the Providers Council. Dr. Chapin brings more than 25 years of experience in the field of volunteerism. She is nationally recognized as a trainer in the areas of volunteer recruitment, orientation, training, and management. She provides leadership to Extension's statewide youth mentoring initiative and oversees the training and support of Extension staff who manage local youth mentoring programs as a part of Michigan 4-H Youth Development programs.
Ervin M. Armstrong
New Genesis Ervin M. Armstrong serves as the Executive Director of New Genesis, a youth and family services non-profit in Kalamazoo. Following his graduation from Michigan State University, Mr. Armstrong spent 25 years teaching in the Kalamazoo Public School system and 25 years serving as an associate pastor in a Kalamazoo church. He is also a Kalamazoo Public School Board of Education Trustee and a Leadership Kalamazoo 2009 graduate.
Karen Betley
Senior Services, Inc. Karen Betley has served as the Director of the Kalamazoo County Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion Programs at Senior Services, Inc. since 1997. She is a member of the Michigan Association of Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion Programs (MAFG/SCP) and has served as the President of that organization since January 2006. She currently sits on the RSVP Advisory Council and the Older Michiganian's Day 2009 Steering Committee, and served for several years on the Kalamazoo Association of Volunteer Administrators (KAVA).
Lisa Bottomley
MSU Extension - Children, Youth, Families and Communities Lisa Bottomley is the Mentoring Specialist at MSU Extension in the state Children, Youth, Families, and Communities office. She has been a mentoring professional for more than 12 years and has been a member of the Mentor Michigan Providers Council since it was created. Ms. Bottomley provides training and support to mentoring professionals through face-to-face trainings, webinars, and by designing resource materials for mentors and staff. Prior to her current role, Ms. Bottomley provided leadership to the Journey 4-H Youth Mentoring Program in Ottawa County.
Peg Cramer
Kentwood Public Schools Peg Cramer has been an educator in the Kentwood Public Schools system since 1978. She has developed and coordinated a comprehensive school-based mentor program and presently sits on the district's steering committee for mentor programming. In addition to her teaching and coordination responsibilities for Kentwood, she facilitates staff development workshops and writes educational materials for the Kent Intermediate School District on mentoring and character education. She is also a certified trainer for Survival Skills for Healthy Families, a component of the nationally recognized Family Wellness program that mentors and supports families with materials on communication and parenting skills.
Edward Hagan
Big Brothers Big Sisters Michigan Capital Region Edward Hagan was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan and graduated college from Western Michigan University. He currently serves as the Executive Director of the Big Brothers Big Sisters Michigan Capital Region, and has done so since 2003. Prior to that Mr. Hagan was a member of the BBBSMCR Board of Directors starting in 1997, serving as President in 2002. Mr. Hagan began his professional career with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources where he retired from in 2002.
Janelle Hill
Arbor Circle Janelle Hill currently serves as the Community Services Coordinator at Arbor Circle in Grand Rapids, having joined the organization in 1999. Ms. Hill coordinates the organization's youth mentoring program and youth community service. She has also been the chairperson of the Kent County Mentoring Collaborative since its formation in 2004. Ms. Hill received her degree in sociology and secondary education from Aquinas College. Previously she worked as a Direct Counselor at St. John's Home and served as Past President and Current Advisor of the volunteer Management Association of Western Michigan.
Ginna Holmes
Alma Public Schools Ginna Holmes is currently the director of the Alma Community Center and the Explore After School Program. She began her professional career as a high school teacher and has worked with all ages of youth, from preschool to college. For both Alma College and the Alma Public Schools, she was a counselor assisting students with career and personal issues. Ms. Holmes has also served as the advisor for the Gratiot County Community Foundation Youth Advisory Council for 13 years and is currently the vice president of the Gratiot Women's Resource Center.
Michelle Malamis
Jewish Family Service Michelle Malamis is the director of Mentor Connection, a program of Jewish Family Service of Metropolitan Detroit. She took on this role in October 2004. Previously, she had been the director of volunteer services for Jewish Family Service since October 1999.
Kristina Marshall
Mentoring Solutions Kristina Marshall has led Mentoring Solutions as president and chief executive officer since 1998. Her introduction to the program was in 1994, when she became its first mentee. Ms. Marshall founded the Metro Detroit Mentor Collaboration in 2003 and today leads that organization. She is also a graduate of Leadership Macomb and of the Michigan Nonprofit Association's "Executive Leadership Fellows." She has received numerous awards including the 2006 International Athena Award from the Macomb Business Chamber for her dedication to the community and providing leadership development to women. She has personally mentored 42 teens and volunteers in Highland Park schools.
Kristen McKinnon
Bethany Christian Services Kristen McKinnon has coordinated the Life Skills Mentor Program at Bethany Christian Services in Grand Rapids since October 2008. This program is community-based and serves youth ages 14 to 21 who are aging out of foster care. Prior to her current position, Kristen served as a Michigan's AmeriCorps member at Bethany under the 4-H Mentor Michigan Initiative. Ms. McKinnon also currently serves as the Education Chairperson of the Kent County Mentoring Collaborative.
Maggie M. Munch
Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Western Upper Peninsula Maggie A. Munch has been serving as the Program Director at Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Western Upper Peninsula since 2000. Prior to working for the agency she volunteered as a "Big Sister." She is still matched with her original "Little Sister" and has been for almost 10 years! Ms. Munch serves her U.P. community in a variety of other ways as well, including the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the Superior Child Abuse Prevention Council, the Board of Directors of Keweenaw Heritage Center, and is an American Red Cross instructor and trainer.
Dara T. Munson
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metropolitan Detroit Dara T. Munson serves as the President and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metropolitan Detroit and has been with the organization since 2007. She became acquainted with the organization when she volunteered as a "Big Sister" with the organization, starting 2004. Ms. Munson obtained her Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice from Eastern Michigan University and her Masters of Public Administration from Central Michigan University. Prior to joining BBBSMD she worked as a Senior Director at United Way of Southeast Michigan. In 2009 she received several honors, including inclusion on the Crain's Detroit Business 40 Under 40 list and the Vanguard Award from Detroit Young Professionals.
Kelly Pringle
Carson City - Crystal Mentoring Program Kelly Pringle is the Mentor Coordinator for the Carson City/Crystal Mentoring Program and has been since 1997. Among other things, Ms. Pringle also runs a peer mentoring program for high school and middle school students in Carson City/Crystal; advises the High School Wellness Team; and acts as an intervention specialist, service-learning coordinator, and grant writer. In 2008 the Carson City/Crystal Mentoring Program received the Outstanding Mentoring Program Award at the annual Governor's Service Awards.
Susan Putnam
Big Brothers Big Sisters in the Heart of Michigan Susan Putnam is the Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters in the Heart of Michigan, serving Midland and Isabella Counties. Ms. Putnam joined the organization in 2006. Prior to that she worked as the Campaign Director for the United Way of Midland County and the Community and Government Relations Department at IBM Corporation in both Washington, D.C. and Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Chris Reinsma
KIDS HOPE USA Chris Reinsma is the National Director of Programs at KIDS HOPE USA, headquartered in Zeeland, Michigan. Mr. Reinsma joined the organization in 2006 after serving for 10 years as a program director and five years as a community center director in other faith-based non-profits.
Laura Schleede
Ottawa County MSU Extension Laura Schleede has spent time with Ottawa County MSUE's Journey 4-H Youth Mentoring Program since 2005. For her first two years with the program Ms. Schleede served as a Michigan's AmeriCorps member, then transitioned to a Case Manager position, and finally became the Program Coordinator. She also acts as co-chair of the Ottawa County Mentoring Collaborative. The Journey 4-H Youth Mentoring Program was selected as the 2009 Outstanding Mentoring Program at the annual Governor's Service Awards.
Mary Schusterbauer
Oakland County Circuit Court, Family Division Mary Schusterbauer is currently the chief of Oakland County Youth Assistance, the prevention arm of the Oakland County Circuit Court ? Family Division. She has worked for the Court since 1986 where she has served in several communities as a caseworker and then supervisor. She was appointed to the chief's position in 2003. Earlier in her career, Mary worked at several agencies such as Vista Maria, Boysville, Barat Family Center, and the Orchards Children's Services.
Allison Smith
Childhelp Allison Smith joined Childhelp, regionally located in Southfield, as their Mentor Program Supervisor in 2008. Prior to that she worked as a Mentor Coordinator at The Guidance Center in Southeast Michigan. Ms. Smith has received two degrees in Social Work, her Bachelors from Western Michigan University and her Master's from Wayne State University.
Michelle Soucy
Big Brothers Big Sisters Michigan Capital Region Michelle Soucy is currently the Program Director at Big Brothers Big Sisters Michigan Capital Region in Lansing. She oversees both the community-based and school-based programs and also has many years of experience with the Mentoring Children of Prisoners program. In addition, Ms. Soucy has worked with multiple Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies since 1996. She was an Executive Director of a small rural agency in Ohio for more than nine years and then worked with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Detroit for three years in the role of Partnership Development Director and then the Vice President of Service Delivery. She is also a former Big Sister.
Reta Stanley
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Flint Reta Stanley is the president and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Flint. She began her tenure at the organization as a service-learning program facilitator in a partnership with Flint Community Schools Youth Projects. She assisted the district in establishing school-based mentoring programs. She also served as the agency's assistant director and interim executive director. Ms. Stanley has served on a number of boards, including the Salvation Army, Junior League of Flint, and the Fairwinds Girl Scout Council. She is a founding member of the Woodrow Stanley Youth Foundation and currently serves on the Flint Community Schools Youth Projects advisory board. Her other memberships include the Youth Leadership Institute and the Genesee County Mentoring Collaborative.
Greg Vander Goot
KIDS HOPE USA Greg Vander Goot is the Michigan State Director at KIDS HOPE USA, headquartered in Zeeland, Michigan. Mr. Vander Goot is a former teacher and principal who earned his Bachelors Degree from Calvin College and his Master's Degree from Grand Valley State University.
