Who We Are and What We Do

  • Prepare construction plans and related contract documents for the construction/reconstruction of state highways, bridges, and related structures
  • Provide engineering data regarding utilities, drainage, and roadside development to be used for design documents of transportation projects
  • Administer and coordinate projects designed by consultants
  • Develop and organize project study procedures and oversee multi-discipline project investigations to obtain engineering, planning and environmental data for analysis
  • Assure plans and proposals are prepared in conformance with FHWA, AASHTO, and MDOT design procedures, principle standards and specifications
  • Coordinate and implement automated engineering systems and standards
  • Administer the federal and state aid programs for local agencies
  • Acquire aerial mapping photography and produce topographic maps to be used for design/construction documents of transportation projects
  • Accumulate survey data for the use of Project Development, Road and Bridge Design Units and the Real Estate Central office
