April 9, 2012 -- A project in Wayne County to repair 34 bridges along I-275 between Hannan Road in Van Buren Township and 6 Mile Road near Northville Township will begin on Monday, April 16, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT). This $23.5 million project will result in freeway lane closures and overpass restrictions, and is expected to be completed in late November.
Included in this project is resurfacing more than 5 miles of northbound and southbound I-275 between Ecorse and Ford roads, reconstructing Ecorse Road at I-275, and constructing a right-turn lane on westbound US-12 (Michigan Avenue) from I-275 to Haggerty Road.
Initial work will focus on the area between Koppernick and 6 Mile roads. Crews will pave shoulders in order to shift traffic and maintain as many lanes as possible through the work zone during peak travel times. During off-peak hours, additional freeway lanes will be closed to accelerate work.
Overpass repairs will result in some full closures with local detours posted. Total closures of these overpasses will greatly reduce the time needed to complete construction.
