MDOT invites public comment on 2035 MI Transportation Plan technical reports

Contact: Jeff Cranson, MDOT Director of Communications 517-335-3084

Agency: Transportation

May 10, 2012 -- The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is asking for public comments on a series of 21 technical report white papers related to the revision of the state's long-range transportation plan.

The first technical report is titled Goals, Objectives, and Performance Measures and is available online at www.michigan.gov/slrp or in printed form by request. MDOT staff produced the 8-page report to analyze public attitudes and perceptions, continued support by Michigan residents for transportation goals, and the department's use of performance measures to provide data on the condition and performance of Michigan's publicly owned transportation system.

The department is revising the state's long-range transportation plan, MI Transportation Plan: Moving Michigan Forward, in order to maintain the 20-year planning horizon required by federal transportation planning regulations. Since reauthorization of the federal highway program could change the requirements, and since such legislation is still pending in Congress, the revision will be an interim step to keep the plan current. A full update will be scheduled at a future time in response to any new requirements that may result from federal reauthorization.

Comments or requests for printed copies of technical reports may be submitted via e-mail to Bob Parsons, MDOT public involvement and hearings officer, at parsonsb@michigan.gov or by phone at 517-373-9534.
