Fast Facts:
- A $1.3 million capital preventive maintenance project on I-75 between M-3 and I-96.
- Project includes pavement repair, joint sealing and storm sewer cleaning.
- Expect directional full closures to allow for faster completion.

May 9, 2012 -- The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) today announced that crews will begin a capital preventive maintenance project this weekend on 3.7 miles of I-75 in downtown Detroit. All work on this $1.3 million project is expected to be completed in early fall.

Capital preventive maintenance is a part of MDOT's asset management program, the most efficient and cost-effective way to invest taxpayer dollars in Michigan's aging road system.

Last rebuilt in 1999, this section of I-75 will have the following repairs:
- Pavement patching, removing the worst sections of concrete and replacing them at an affordable cost.
- Joint sealing, sealing the joints in the pavement to prevent moisture from seeping below the pavement and creating potholes.

In order to provide proper cure times, crews will close I-75 on select weekends to allow for faster pavement patching. The other maintenance activities will be done using freeway lane closures. All work will be done during off-peak travel times.

Beginning at 9 p.m. Friday, May 11, southbound I-75 will be closed from M-3 (Gratiot Avenue) to I-96. A detour will be posted. All lanes will open by 5 a.m. Monday, May 14.
