US-24 BR (Cesar Chavez Avenue) reconstruction in Pontiac starts in early April

Fast Facts:
- Reconstruction of 1 mile will require full closure of southbound lanes.
- One lane will remain open for northbound drivers.
- Included in the project are utility and traffic signal upgrades, and new street lights.

March 26, 2012 -- A $5 million investment to reconstruct 1 mile of US-24 Business Route (Cesar Chavez Avenue) between Montcalm Street and the Woodward Loop in Pontiac will begin in early April, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT).

In order to accomplish all the work in one season, crews will restrict northbound Cesar Chavez Avenue to one lane and close all southbound lanes. Southbound traffic will be detoured to Cass Avenue, and all lanes are expected to open in October.

Upgrades to several utilities are contained in this project including:

- Storm sewer and sidewalk replacement,
- Traffic and pedestrian signal upgrades, and
- Installation of new streetlights.
