January 31, 2011 -- The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is inviting public comment on a planned project that will improve safety and convenience for motorists on M-331 (Park Street) over Axtell Creek in downtown Kalamazoo.
The proposed project includes replacement of the bridge over Axtell Creek and reconstructing M-331 from Crosstown Parkway to Den Adel Court. Traffic will be detoured utilizing Crosstown Parkway, Rose Street and Forest Street. This proposed project will provide for a smooth driving surface over the bridge.
MDOT is working with the City of Kalamazoo to acquire a small area (31 square yards) of right of way and consent to grade 494 square yards from Crosstown Parkway Ponds, located on the east side of M-331 at Axtell Creek, to accommodate the improvements. The functions and attributes of the Crosstown Parkway Ponds will not be altered in anyway as a result of MDOT's proposed project.
MDOT is seeking public input and concerns regarding the roadway improvements at the Crosstown Parkway Ponds. Comments and concerns will be accepted in writing through Feb. 16, 2011. Mail comments to Robert H. Parsons, Public Involvement and Hearings Officer, Bureau of Transportation Planning, Michigan Department of Transportation, P.O. Box 30050, Lansing, MI 48909; Fax: 517-373-9255; or e-mail: parsonsb@michigan.gov.
