Repair work to M-39 (Southfield Freeway) overpass at Hubbard Drive in Dearborn begins in late January Contact: Rob Morosi 248-483-5127 Agency: Transportation
January 21, 2009 -- Work is scheduled to begin the last weekend in January to repair steel beams that were damaged by a commercial vehicle that struck the Hubbard Drive overpass above southbound M-39 in the city of Dearborn.
Repair to the overpass is slated to begin on Friday, Jan. 30, with single lane closures on the southbound lanes which are necessary to complete beam straightening work. Those single lane closures are restricted to weekends and during the overnight hours on weekdays. In addition to the single lane closures, crews will close the entrance ramp from M-153 (Ford Road) to southbound M-39 for safety. Ramp traffic will be directed to continue on the southbound service drive to the US-12 (Michigan Avenue) entrance ramp.
Upon completion of the repair, a continuous single lane closure on southbound M-39 at Hubbard Drive will be needed in order for crews to paint the damaged beams. The continuous single lane closure is expected to begin in mid-February and end by the end of the month.
This $163,000 repair will be charged to the freight hauler.
