MDOT to begin final stage of construction on US-131 from West River Drive to 10 Mile Road in Grand RapidsContact: Dawn Garner 616-451-4063 Agency: Transportation
July 10, 2008 -- The two-year construction project on US-131, from West River Drive to 10 Mile Road, is moving into the final phase. Beginning Saturday, July 12, the local lane of traffic will be shifted from the inside lane to the outside lane on southbound US-131 to allow for reconstruction of the left lane and shoulder.
The ramp from southbound US-131 to West River Drive also will re-open on Saturday. The ramp from Post Drive to southbound US-131 will reopen on Wednesday, July 16.
"All lanes of traffic on US-131 are scheduled to be open by Labor Day, however, intermittent shoulder closures will still be necessary for clean-up work," said Erick Kind, Grand Rapids Transportation Service Center manager.
This $19.3 million project includes resurfacing 6.4 miles of US-131 and reconstructing the ramps at West River Drive, Post Drive and 10 Mile Road.
For updates on this project, visit the list of statewide lane closures on the MDOT Web site at www.michigan.gov/laneclosures.
