Contact: Kari Arend, MDOT Office of Communications, arendk@michigan.gov 517-750-0406 Agency: Transportation
COUNTY: Ingham HIGHWAY: Northbound US-127 CLOSEST CITY: East Lansing START DATE: Tuesday, May 29, 2012 REOPENING DATE: August 2012 PROJECT: The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is adding an auxiliary lane along northbound US-127 between the I-496 ramps and the exit to M-43 (Saginaw Street/Grand River Avenue). TRAFFIC IMPACTS: During construction, there will be at least one lane open on northbound US-127, just north of Trowbridge Road near the split to westbound I-496. At the split, all through traffic on northbound US-127 will be directed to the far left lane; ramp traffic will use the far right lane. The ramps from I-496, Trowbridge Road, and Kalamazoo Street will remain open during construction.
In addition, the exit to M-43 (Exit 78) will be closed. All traffic will be detoured using the Kalamazoo Street exit as a way to access M-43 (Saginaw Street/Grand River Avenue).
Motorists are encouraged to plan extra time and to watch for traffic slow downs. CUSTOMER BENEFIT: The new auxiliary lane will ease traffic flow and congestion along this stretch of northbound US-127, making merging and exiting safer for motorists.
