I-94 resurfacing starts Friday, April 20, in eastern Macomb County

April 17, 2012 -- A $16 million project to resurface more than 6 miles of I-94, between 23 Mile and County Line roads in Macomb County, is scheduled to begin Friday, April 20. The work on I-94 in Chesterfield Township, New Baltimore and New Haven is expected to be completed in late October.

Included in this project is the extension of acceleration lanes leading onto the freeway at various entrance ramps, the widening of the eastbound I-94 exit ramp to 23 Mile Road, and guardrail installation.

Nightly lane closures are expected to occur during weekdays beginning at 8 p.m. and ending by 6 a.m. the following mornings. On weekdays, two lanes will be open in each direction during peak travel times, while on weekends the freeway may be reduced to a single lane in each direction to expedite work. Traffic also will be shifted, with commercial vehicles directed to use the left lane for safety reasons.

Ramp work will require lane restrictions or full ramp closures. During these ramp closures, traffic will be directed to M-3 (Gratiot Avenue). Ramps will not be closed concurrently.
