System Profile
Mecosta County initiated public transportation services in 1978 and provides countywide services in this northwestern lower Michigan area.  The system operates in a 556-square mile area (excluding the City of Big Rapids).  Through a coordination effort to provide more efficient and effective rural public transportation services, Osceola County (adjacent county) in 1987 began contracting with Mecosta County to provide public transportation services in Osceola County.  Collectively, MOTA services a two county population of approximately 63,000 and includes a total service area of 1,070 square miles.  Nearly 90% of riders are elderly and/or disabled.
