Countywide public transit services were initiated in January 1982. The Alger/Marquette Community Action Board was the third-party operator of transit services for Alger County until March 1990. ALTRAN, an Act 196 transit authority, was created in March 1990 to provide the countywide transit services. Senior citizens and handicappers comprise 60 percent of the annual ridership.
