Gerald Richards has been the manager of Meridian Charter Township since March of 1995.
Prior to his appointment as manager, he was the Director of Personnel and Administration for
this suburban Lansing community of 39,000 residents. During his tenure, the township has
continued to expand its pedestrian bicycle pathway system, increased funding for subdivision
road resurfacing, initiated a sidewalk replacement program, upgraded its 27 sanitary sewer lift
stations and replaced sections of water mains having a high frequency of line breaks.
Jerry has been active in work-related boards and commissions including the Meridian Economic
Development Corporation, the Michigan Local Government Managers Association, the Meridian
Area Business Association and the Regional Economic Development Team.
Prior to his employment with Meridian Township, Jerry was the city manager of two Michigan
communities (Ludington and Corunna). He also has extensive experience in the private sector as
a government marketing consultant for Unisys Corporation and as both an engineer and
engineering supervisor with Post Cereals in Battle Creek.
Under his direction the township is working toward accreditation of its police department and
implementation of a township-wide greenspace plan for preserving and protecting open space.
