US-2 , Gogebic County, Access Management Plan
Overview This plan establishes a process for managing traffic and access issues along the US-2 Corridor in Gogebic County.
Why is this plan needed?
Over decades, as businesses and homes were built along US-2, many separate driveways have been built to serve them. This changed the character of the highway; it raised safety concerns, and made the corridor less efficient in its traditional role of moving goods and travelers across northern Michigan.
How was the plan created?
During spring 2006, MDOT and local officials met to consider the problem. Using MDOT funding, the group worked with consultant to apply principles of access management to US-2.
The resulting study (below) identified issues and problems, and proposed potential solutions for each participating local government.
