US-2 Ditch Environmental Assessment
US-2 ShieldOverview
Blowing and drifting sand along US-2 near Brevort is creating problems for MDOT highway maintenance. The encroaching sand causes road flooding and snow plowing problems along four miles of open dune habitat in Mackinac County, southeasterly from one mile east of Brevort Campground Road (County Road 526). Sand maintenance has been an ongoing challenge since construction of the Upper Peninsula coastal highway in 1937.
