Project 5: Oakland County - Maple Road to M-15

Start: June 2008       End: Early Spring 2009

How traffic is affected:
  • Traffic will be maintained throughout this project, with two lanes open in each direction during peak travel periods.
  • Traffic may be reduced to a single lane in each direction Monday to Friday beginning at 10 p.m. and ending at 5 a.m.
  • On weekends, northbound I-75 may be reduced to a single lane beginning at 11:59 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday.
  • On weekends, southbound may be reduced to a single lane beginning at 7 p.m. Friday until noon Sunday.

What we are doing:
  • A $16.5 million investment to restore 24 bridges along I-75 from the city of Troy to the city of Clarkston in Oakland County.
  • The bridge work will be separated into two sections. The first is between Maple Road (Mile Marker 66) and Crooks Road (Exit 72) in Troy. The second is between the M-24 connector (Exit 81) in Auburn Hills and M-15 (Exit 91) in Clarkston.
  • These bridges have deteriorated to the point that major rehabilitation is the most cost effective fix and is necessary to ensure the safety of the motoring public.
  • Bridges include:
    Northbound I-75 over Maple Road;
    Southbound I-75 over Maple Road;
    Northbound I-75 over Rochester Road;
    Southbound I-75 over Rochester Road;
    Northbound I-75 over Livernois;
    Southbound I-75 over Livernois;
    Northbound I-75 over Big Beaver Road;
    Southbound I-75 over Big Beaver Road;
    Northbound I-75 exit to Big Beaver ramp over Big Beaver Road;
    Southbound I-75 exit to Big Beaver ramp over Big Beaver Road;
    Wattles Road over I-75;
    Northbound I-75 over Long Lake Road; and
    Southbound I-75 over Long Lake Road.

    Eastbound I-75 connector to M-24;
    Westbound I-75 connector to M-24;
    Giddings Road over I-75;
    I-75 northbound over Joslyn Road;
    Southbound I-75 over Joslyn Road;
    I-75 northbound over Clintonville Road;
    Southbound I-75 over Clintonville Road;
    Northbound I-75 over Clarkston Road; and
    Southbound I-75 over Clarkston Road.
  • As part of this project, the overpass that carries Walton Boulevard (Mile Marker 81) over I-75 in Auburn Hills will be totally replaced. This project is being done in conjunction with the Road Commission for Oakland County's widening of Walton Boulevard between Opdyke and Squirrel roads. The existing two-lane bridge will be replaced with a new five-lane overpass.
