Reconstruction extends 10 miles from M-15 near Flint in Genesee County to M-24 in Lapeer County, and includes concrete pavement and shoulder work. Guardrail and drainage improvements are planned, including the rehabilitation of 12 bridges.
Eastbound I-69 reconstruction began earlier this year and is expected to be completed by November. Westbound I-69 reconstruction will occur next April; the overall project is expected to be completed by October 2010.
From November through March 2010, all lanes will be open.
One lane in each direction will remain open to motorists.
Sixteen portable message boards will be used to alert motorists regarding lane closures and upcoming work.
Crossovers will be used for traffic maintenance. I-69 eastbound traffic will be shifted to westbound lanes in 2009, while I-69 westbound traffic will be shifted to eastbound lanes in 2010. Traffic will be separated using a temporary concrete barrier.
