The Michigan Department of Transportation has used several different logos through the years. As the department has grown, so has its logo. Each version of the logo was designed to accomodate the evolution of the department and its services.
From the simple yet solid statement of the first logo, to the current stylishly efficient design, the logo has always represented the Michigan Department of Transportation well.
1905 -1933
The Michigan Department of Transportation first used a logo in 1905. At that time, a simple hand-lettered "Michigan State Highway Department" was painted on the doors of trucks used by the department.
