November 11, 2008 -- Reconstruction work on 1.7 miles of I-475, from north of Saginaw Road (Exit 13) to the north junction of I-75 (Exit 125), in Genesee County, is now complete. The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) reopened southbound I-475 lanes to traffic today, Tuesday, Nov. 11.

Work, which began in April, included ramp work, drainage improvements and median crossover work. The project was originally expected to be completed by late September, but work was delayed due to inclement weather.

The first phase of the project, reconstruction of I-475 northbound lanes, with northbound traffic detoured, was completed in early August. The second phase of construction, work on I-475 southbound lanes, with southbound traffic detoured, was completed this morning.

With today's reopening of southbound I-475 lanes along this stretch of the highway, north- and southbound I-475 lanes are fully open to traffic and the posted detour is no longer in effect.

"I-475 is a vital transportation corridor with state and national significance," said Mike Hemmingsen, Davison Transportation Service Center manager. "Completion of this $11.1 million project will promote safety by improving traffic flow and ride quality for many years to come."
