COUNTY: Clinton
HIGHWAY: US-127 Business Route (BR)
CLOSEST CITY: St. Johns
EVENT DATES: Aug. 8, 9, 10, 2008
TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS: During the St. Johns' Mint Festival in the second weekend in August, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is encouraging motorists to use the M-21 exit off US-127 to access the festival and avoid construction on US-127 BR. US-127 BR north of M-21 will be closed, with a posted detour using US-127 and M-21.
For motorists traveling to St. Johns from the south on US-127 BR, it is anticipated that one lane will be open in each direction by the start of the Mint Festival. Currently, only southbound traffic is being maintained on US-127 BR, just south of M-21. All northbound traffic is detoured.
PROJECT: Construction on US-127 BR in St. Johns began in the spring of 2008 and stretches from Townsend Road to just north of the US- 127 interchange. Improvements include pavement repairs and reconstruction, curb and gutter replacement, water main work and intersection and traffic signal upgrades. The project also includes removing the bridge over the abandoned Central Michigan Railroad, and replacing it with a concrete box culvert. US-127 BR north of M-21 is currently closed to accommodate this work.
