August 4, 2008 -- Bridge crews from C.A. Hull Company are working to replace the center bridge pier on I-75 at Clay Avenue in Detroit. This work is resulting in a left-lane closure on northbound and southbound I-75 between I-94 and M-8 (Davison Freeway). The work on the Clay Avenue overpass is part of a $26 million investment to rehabilitate 24 bridges above the I-75 freeway in Detroit.

The center pier is the concrete column that supports the overpass, and is located in the center of the freeway, between the northbound and southbound lanes. The I-75 pier at Clay Avenue is in need of replacement, which is underway and scheduled to be completed in late August.

Starting Monday, Aug. 4, there will be multiple overnight lane closures on northbound and southbound I-75 between I-94 and M-8. The overnight lane closures, which will be in effect from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning, are expected to last a week.

Bridge demolition work is scheduled for this coming weekend. Beginning Friday, Aug. 8, crews will close both directions of I-75 between I-94 and M-8 in order to demolish the bridge decks on the Clay and Caniff overpasses. The freeway closure is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 8, and open to traffic by 5 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 11.
