The Michigan departments of Transportation and Information Technology today announced that the Center for Digital Government has designated MDOT's FieldManager program as a "Best in Breed" in the GIS/Transportation category. FieldManager was one of five projects selected for the honor out of 1,500 submitted.
The road construction management software suite was developed and co-owned by MDOT and Info Tech, a Gainesville, Fla. software company. It eliminates a time-consuming and error-prone paper process for managing road construction projects and is as an excellent example of what can be done when the public and private sectors work together to create an application to transform the way business is done.
"This is yet another feather in the cap for our FieldManager program," said State Transportation Director Gregory J. Rosine. "Our success with FieldManager is directly related to the integration of information technology people with our business people. It's a very successful partnership and one that we use as a model for all of our IT projects."
Earlier this year, FieldManager was selected for one of only five nationwide CIO Magazine Enterprise Value Awards.
"FieldManager is a great illustration of how Michigan and its partners are developing innovative business solutions through forward-thinking technology," said Department of Information Technology Director Jacque Passino. "The end result is an enduring and efficient method of conducting business."
The Center for Digital Government is a national research and advisory institute providing government, industry and education leaders with decision support, research and educational resources to help them effectively incorporate new technologies in the 21st century.
