November 9, 2009 -- The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and the city of Ishpeming have forged a partnership to allow commuters to use a portion of the Ishpeming Senior Center parking lot for carpooling.

In cooperation with the city, MDOT repainted a portion of the parking lot at the senior center, and will place signs designating those spaces for commuter use. The lot is located on West Division Street, just off the M-28 Business Route.

"This cooperative effort builds on the convenience MDOT's carpool lot system provides to commuters and other travelers," said Andy Sikkema, MDOT's Ishpeming Transportation Service Center (TSC) manager.

This lot also serves as a pick-up and drop-off location for MARQ-TRAN, the Marquette County Transit Authority.
