October 29, 2008 -- The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is taking advantage of the mild weather predicted for this weekend to help complete the work on US-131 in Grand Rapids before winter weather arrives.

The night and weekend construction hours that have been in place since mid-August will be expanded to include daytime closures on Friday, Oct. 31, and Monday, Nov. 3. On north and southbound US-131 from M-11 (28th Street) to Wealthy Street, there will be single lane closures from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday and Monday, along with the double lane closures from 8 p.m. Friday, to 6 a.m. Monday.

The following ramp closures with posted detour routes also will be in place:

- Northbound US-131 to Burton St. - closed 8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 30, to 6 a.m., Friday, Oct. 31; and Saturday, Nov. 1, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

- Hall Street to northbound US-131 - closed 8p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, to 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1.

- Northbound US-131 to Wealthy Street - closed from 8 p.m., Friday, Oct. 31, to 9 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 2.

- Wealthy Street to southbound US-131 - closed from 8 p.m., Friday, Oct. 31, to 9 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 2.

- US-131 Business Route to southbound US-131 - closed from 8 p.m., Friday, Oct. 31, to 6 a.m., Monday Nov. 3.

Construction on US-131 includes pavement and barrier wall repairs, and new lighting. Work has primarily taken place at night and on weekends to minimize impacts to traffic on Grand Rapids' busiest stretches of roadway.

Work on the $4.6 million project is scheduled to be completed by mid-November.
