MDOT begins work on state roads in Allegan, St. Joseph, Van Buren, and Berrien counties

HIGHWAYS: I-94, M-89, M-60, I-196 Business Loop and US-31

CLOSEST CITIES: Battle Creek, Plainwell, Mendon, South Haven, Niles

ESTIMATED STARTING DATE: Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008

ESTIMATED COMPLETION DATE: Mid-September 2008

PROJECT: The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will be milling and resurfacing 4 miles of state roadways in Allegan, St. Joseph, Van Buren and Berrien counties. The locations and schedules are as follows:

M-60 from west of N. Locust Street to east of Congress Street in Mendon: Aug. 7 to Aug. 10.

I-196 from Blue Star Highway to Aylworth Avenue in South Haven: Aug. 12 to Aug. 18.

M-89 from Naomi Street to Hicks Street in Plainwell: Aug. 15 to Aug. 19.

I-94 from just east to just west of 11-Mile Road in Calhoun County: Aug. 26 to Aug. 30.

Southbound US-31 on four intermittent segments from US-12 to the Indiana state line in Berrien County: Sept. 5 to Sept. 17.

TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS: Single lane closures will take place during this work.

CUSTOMER BENEFIT: This $1.2 million project will provide a smoother ride for motorists and extend the pavement life of these roadways by approximately eight years.
